Program Description: Most will agree leadership, is leadership, is leadership.  However, when coaching emerging leaders in the nonprofit/education worlds, there are a few nuanced differences that may not be applicable to all leaders but can be generalizable enough to consider when working with these audiences in helping them actualize their goals and potential.  This session will look at some of the characteristics of nonprofit and education emerging leaders and engage in conversations about lessons from experience working with and/or providing coaching in this particular arena.

Benefit of Program for Coaches:  Working with education and nonprofit emerging leaders can be quite rewarding.  This session will consider some of the characteristics that may (or may not) distinguish this group from other leaders

Presenter’s Bio:

KAREN M. DYER, consultant, was formerly the Director of the Education and Nonprofit Sector for the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL).  Having served in this capacity for seventeen (17) years, she was responsible for leading the work that insured CCL’s portfolio of programs, products, and resources were made available to social sector leaders (e.g., nonprofit, higher education, and pre-K-12) - enterprise wide.  Recently, she was named Honorary Senior Fellow, one of CCL’s highest honors.

Prior to this position Karen was the Executive Director of the Chicago Academy for School Leadership. Previous to this, Karen served as a state-wide Executive Director, school district administrator, school principal, and an adjunct professor at California State University, Hayward and Nova University.

Karen has made presentations at numerous national and international conferences as well as done consultation work with corporate clients, nonprofit organizations/NGOs, and school districts throughout the United States, Singapore, and India. She is the co - author of the book, The Intuitive Principal and author of several articles and modules on leadership. She serves on several nonprofit boards.

Karen holds a Bachelors degree from the University of California, Berkeley, a Masters of Education degree from Holy Names University in Oakland, California, and a Doctorate from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California.
