Wait For It
By: Lucy Wellmaker
Reflecting on 2025, for me, it was a year of waiting, anticipation, and more waiting. There were also valuable lessons, insights and reminders weaved throughout.
When I resigned from my full-time HR position at the end of last year, I anticipated working as a coach for a company or an organization within a few months. I thought this would be a good way to do what I love without having to find the people to do it with.
Spoiler Alert: It didn’t happen.
The first day of winter marked my first day of not working. Deep down I wanted to believe that my season of waiting would literally be ONE SEASON, and that by spring things would be different.
Deeper down there was a whisper that said, “This will take a year or more.”
I decided to ignore that. On that first day of spring, secretly anticipating something magical to happen, I began my day as I have for many years – with my morning devotional.
The message: “Follow Me.”
“Wait,” I said. “I thought I was.”
The message continued, “From time to time, we all need to renew our commitment.”
Wow, not exactly what I had hoped for and obviously what I needed.
Having recently moved to a new town where I knew no one (besides my husband), I had a lot of quiet time on my hands – something I had longed for, plus more. With the exception of a couple of things including writing my weekly WOW Blog – my plate had been cleared.
I was very mindful and intentional with what I would add to it. I have learned that while it is often easier to have a full plate it is not always better. The empty space can be daunting and also necessary while we wait.
Sometimes we don’t even know what we are waiting for. I believe we will know it when it comes. It will be undeniable.
I was also reminded that waiting does not mean sitting still all the time. Waiting can be very action oriented.
I have made some wonderful connections in my new community. I am active in my new church, involved in soul nourishing groups and have decided to reengage in my own life coaching practice. I am grateful that the Triad Coaching Community can be accessed from anywhere.
It has been a wonderful year. Life is good. And still, I wait.
